Convert from a beneficiary IRA to regular IRA (edited)

Spouse is the beneficiary of deceased husbands IRA – elects to leave in the husbands name as she is under 59.5 and MAY want to take a distribution prior to her age 59.5

May want to convert some to a roth. Inhereted IRA’s can’t be converted to a roth, so

Can she take over part of the beneficiary IRA as her own whenever she wants (and then convert to a roth as she is the owner) or is it a permanent one time decision to elect it as a beneficiary IRA?

Even if she elects beneficiary treatment, she can still convert all or any part of it to a Roth IRA or roll it over to her own TIRA. It’s only non spouse TIRA beneficiaries who cannot roll the account over or convert it.

She could convert it directly if she wanted. Note p 30 of Pub 590, “Inherited IRAs”.
