RMD birthdate
If my client turns 70 next year on 4-11-09 (4-11-1939), which means she turns 70 1/2 on Oct 11, 2009…does this mean she has to take an rmd in 2009?
Or
can she wait until 2010 and take a rmd before the 1st of april 2010 (for 2009) and then an additional rmd before 12-31-10 (for 2010)?
I am correct on the above or missing something?

The latter is correct. The 2009 distribution can be delayed up to 4/1/2010, but then there will be two taxable distributions in 2010. 4/1/2010 is the RBD (required beginning date).
On the other hand, any distribution taken in 2009 is credited against the 2009 RMD requirement.
