A 457 plan is subject to the 2002 RMD requirements, however those indicate that a plan may specify whether the 5 year rule or the life expectancy option applies for owner deaths prior to the required beginning date.
In addition, it is optional with a plan to allow a non spouse beneficiary transfer to an inherited IRA, from which a lifetime stretch would be available.

Alan’s comments were regarding a Governmental Plan. Is that the type of plan it is?
