direct deposit of refund/quarterly payments

I was told a while ago that you do not want any IRS payments coming to you by direct deposit or pay the IRS for estimated taxes through ACH with your checking account.

The reason was: if you owe any taxes or they make a mistake and say you owe back taxes or penalties, they can take it right out of your checking account since you establised a pattern using the direct deposit.

Just hear say or is there any truth to the matter?

Thanks,

doug
