Roth Conversion AGI Limits

Can you tell me what the AGI limits are for converting a traditional IRA to a Roth IRA? I saw where it was $100,000.00. If this is right would this be for an individual filing separately or for a couple filing jointly?

Thanks, Larry

For 2009 and prior years that limits are 100,000 for singles and joint filers. And it is -0- for married separate filers unless they never lived together the entire year.

Starting in 2010 and beyond, both the 100,000 income limit and the married filing separate limitations disappear.

Returning to this year, the 100,000 limit is MODIFIED AGI, not just AGI. The conversion itself and any RMD taken for a year prior to 2009 do not count toward the 100,000. However, there are a few above the line deductions that must be added back in. So be sure to correctly determine what the modified AGI number is.

Thanks for the quick reply,

Larry
