Contributing to RIRA

I’m on disability and over the age of 18, no earned income. Can I contribute to RIRA? My husband works and has earned income.

Yes, you can make a spousal Roth IRA contribution using your husband’s earned income. Your contribution and his cannnot total more than his earned income. In addition, the ability of either of you to contribute begins to be phased out if your joint modified AGI exceeds 159,000 for 2008. If you contribute, be sure you clearly specify the year the contribution applies to. Between 1/1/ and 4/15 you can contribute for 2008 and/or 2009.
