Medi-Cal, MediCaid RMD’s required in 2009?
Hello,
I have a potential client that has a parent (single parent — mother) who is on Medi-Cal. I understand that they have to give her annual RMD to the state of Calif for Medi-Caid expenses.
Question: Do they have to take an RMD in 2009, or can they not take it like “normal” people who have IRA’s?? They are concerned about making a mistake and harming mom’s current Medi-Cal eligibility.

I suggest that Medi Cal be queried on this directly.
Looking at their website, I could find no reference to RMDs, just to periodic payments. It could be that even though there is no 2009 RMD, Medi Cal would still require a periodic payment in the amount of what the RMD would have been. If the requirement is listed as RMDs in the info provided, then perhaps no distribution is needed.
