RMD Calculations for 2010

Anyone know how the RMD calculation will work for 2010? Specfically, if for 2008 you divided by 22.2 are we now dividing by 21.2, or 20.2 because we skipped a year?

Peter,

The way you worded your question makes it sound as if you are making a RMD from an inherited non-spousal IRA. I say this because you are subtracting the amount of 1 for each year. If so, you would use the factor for 2010 because you skipped a year when RMDs were not required.

If not an inherited IRA you would use the factor based on your attained age as of December 31, 2010.

More specifically, 20.2 would apply. The RMD for 2009 is waived, but your divisor is determined AS IF you had taken 2009, and therefore is reduced by 2.0 from the correct 2008 divisor.
