A 73 yr old just had a health change. She has discontinued her contributions to her 401K 3 wks ago and is receiving company disability benefits. No RMDs have

If she is receiving disability payments from the company, she is probably still on their payroll and not separated from service. But that is the question she needs to have confirmed. This is only an RMD distribution year if she is considered separated from service under the provisions of the company. Not making contributions does not mean that she is necessarily separated from service.
