New Elite Advisor

Hello All,
I am a new Elite Advisor. How did you use this credentialling to gain new clients? What has worked for you in driving new clients through the door? What marketing has worked well for you and what marketing has not worked well?
Thank you,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Wrong board.
There is a special board for Elite Advisors- password access. Contact someone at the home office for instructions on how to log in. Contact list here http://www.irahelp.com/aboutUs.php

What works for one person may not work for another person. The largest percentage of my clients get to me by referral from other lawyers. Other sources of clients are referrals from accountants, referrals from other advisors, referrals from existing clients, referrals from personal friends and acquaintances, and clients who find me on their own (such as when they’re doing their own research and they find an article that I wrote on the subject they’re interested in). I speak (for continuing education programs) and write (mainly for Trusts & Estates and Leimberg) extensively, and I send copies of my articles and the announcements of my speaking engagements to my contacts, which keeps my name in front of my contacts. Our firm also sends out periodic newsletters and alerts to our contacts.

From your e-mail address (shown in Denise’s response to your post), I took a look at your website. Since you’re in the financial arena, your clients are likely to come by referral from accountants, lawyers, and other allied professionals, as well as referrals from existing clients and personal acquaintances. However, if an accountant, lawyer or other professional hasn’t met you, and doesn’t know you, he/she is far more likely to refer people to the others whom he/she knows. So it’s important for you to network with potential referral sources.

I see you’re a CPA. That makes you eligible to join the Estate Planning Council of Cape Cod: http://www.epccc.com/ and the Bristol County Estate Planning Council: http://www.bcepc.net/ . You may also be meet one of the other criteria for membership as well. You should consider joining these groups. Each of them is a mix of lawyers, accountants, bank trust officers, insurance agents, and related professionals. They’re generally the better ones among each discipline, though that varies from council to council.

Since you’re already a CPA and MBA, I don’t know whether becoming a CFP or getting the PFS designation as a CPA would be helpful, but you might want to look into either or both of them.

You might also want to update your website to give people to get a better sense of what you do, how you do it, and whom you do it for.
