Since his designated beneficiary is deceased, the IRA agreement provisions determine who would inherit his IRA. Those provisions would likely make his estate or his current spouse the default beneficiaries. Once a beneficiary passes, the IRA owner should name a new beneficiary on the account to be sure the account will go to the desired party.
