IRA rollover deposit time period

When does the time period start for a person that receives a check from their 401 k or IRA to rollover to an IRA? I read somewhere on the Ed Slott website that the time starts when the client receives the check, not the date the check was issued. Can someone please confirm this fact and where I can find this information?

  •  Note that the first day begins on the day following your receipt of the check, not the postmark date or the issue date on the check. This applies to either a 401k or IRA distribution.
