Update of RMD life expectancy tables

Does anyone know the status of the RMD life expectancy tables being updated? The Secretary can update these table at his or her discretion. Since the Government has recently updated life expectancies for other uses, I am curious as to why it has not done so for RMDs. Of course, new tables would reduce the amount of the RMDs — which may the reason they have not been updated. The tables were last updated in 2002.

I need to get information on life exptancy table for my IRA RMD

I have wondered this myself, but cannot locate anything regarding the status including any debate on the subject. 1987 to 2002 is 15 years plus another 15 would be 2017. Apparently gains in LE have somewhat stalled the last 3 years, and perhaps that has become a factor.

If the IRS was to update the life-expectancy tables, I would expect the IRS to announce and release the update prior to the year to which the update would apply, otherwise it would make it impossible for RMDs to be properly satisfied before doing something like rolling over a distribution early in the year.  Since there has been no such update made available, there is no reason to believe that the tables to be used for calculating 2016 RMDs are any different than the ones published in the 2015 IRS Pub 590-B:  https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p590b.pdf
