Deadline for Opening a Non-Deductible IRA for 2014 Contribution
I’m interested in finding, and am having trouble sourcing definitive information for, the deadline for opening a non-deductible IRA for a 2014 contribution.
One prominent source says, “assuming the IRA was open by 12/31/2014…” a contribution may be made until April 15, 2015. However, I have found multiple sources that contradict this, including information on this website (which I tend to trust more). This is to say that an IRA may be opened until April 15, 2015 for a 2014 contribution.
The IRS website seems to be silent on when an account must be opened for a previous year’s contribution other than to say an IRA may be opened at any time.
Thank you.

You have until the tax filing deadline for a specific year, not inlcluding extensions, to open and make a contribution for that specific year. For 2014, you have until April 15th of 2015 to open an IRA and make a 2014 contribution.
