Roth 401(k) & RMD’s

I was told that if you have a Roth 401(K) you must take RMD’s from said account starting no later than 70 1/2. If this is true, why not just roll it over to a Roth IRA? Looking for clarification. Thanks!!

It is true unless your RMDs are deferred due to still working for the plan sponsor, and the solution is as you indicated. The Roth 401k should be rolled over to a Roth IRA no later than the end of the year prior to the year 70.5 is reached, or if working no later than the end of the year prior to retiring.
