Stretching IRAs for non-spouse beneficiaries
My client, the son, is the beneficiary of his mother’s IRA. She was already taking RMDs.
The title of the IRA is “Jane Doe deceased IRA for the benefit of John Doe(son)”. If he designates his children as the beneficiaries of this account will they be able to take RMDs based on the oldest child’s life expectancy when he passes away?

It is my understanding that since the son is the beneficiary of a non-spousal IRA, his RMD rate continues at his current withdrawal rate when his children inherit the IRA upon his death. No resetting of the withdrawal rate. Tom D.
