Inherited IRA RMD’s when do they need to start
Say, I have a question for you.
Parent passed away in the spring and had an IRA which they took the RMD for the current year.
Adult child rolled over into a new Inherited IRA in the current year.
Can the adult child wait until next year to start RMD’s since parent took the RMD out this year prior to passing or do they (the adult child) need to take RMD in current year?
Thank you,
Brian

The beneficiary’s RMD does not start until the year after the IRA owner passes. The only RMD obligation in the year of death is the fulfillment of the IRA owner’s own RMD obligation, which was already taken care of by the IRA owner in this situation.
