qualified charitable distributions

many insurance companies with do qcds some have their own forms others will do it with a letter
of instructions they will name the charity on the check but send the check to the ira owner instead to
the charity directly and the ira owner must send it to the charity in reading pub 590b on page 13 its says
the trustee pay the charity directly is there a problem if the check goes to the ira owner first even though check
has charity as payee

Not a problem if the check is made out payable to the charity but send to IRA owner for delivery. This was confirmed by the IRS in Notice 2007-7, Q 41.

where do you find notice 2007-7 q41 what publication or website and is that 2007 year 2007?

For some reason, this site does not accept posted links in the last two weeks. So you will have to google this. Just google IRS Notice 2007-7.  The Q refers to the number of the question in the notice. Yes, this Notice was issued in 2007.
