if she takes a $1000 per month from the SSD, would that be okay or is their a maximum on the SSD?

If she takes IRA distributions, the amounts in excess of $20 per month will count toward her SSI maximum income, but will not affect SSD. Therefore, the IRA distributions will have to be quite small to avoid reducing the SSI amount.
