HSA CONTRIBUTIONS AND MEDICARE….PENALTIES?
I TURN 65 IN MAY 2025. I AM COVERED BY MY EMPLOYERS MEDICAL PLAN WHICH IS AN HSA TYPE PLAN.
1.) CAN I FULLY FUND MY HSA CONTRIBUTION IN JANUARY 2025
2.) THEN RETIRE ON DECEMBER 31ST, 2025 AND HAVE MEDICARE BEGIN ON JANUARY 1ST, 2026
3.) AND AVOID THE PENALTY BECAUSE I STOPPED MAKING HSA CONTRIBUTIONS WELL BEFORE THE SIX-MOTH WINDOW? OR, IF I WANTED TO SPREAD OUT THE HSA CONTRIBUTIONS IN 2025, AS LONG AS I FULLY FUNDED MY HSA BY MAY OF 2025, WOULD THAT ALSO SUFFICE TO AVOID THE PENALTIES BECASE THE LAST CONTRIBUTION DATE OF MAY, 2025 IS STILL MORE THAN 6 MONTHS BEFORE I RETIRE AND APPLY FOR MEDICARE?
Thank you.
