One of the points of a QLAC is that the balance of the QLAC does NOT toward RMDs. That deferral can only continue to as late as age 85, but it can be earlier.
QLAC annuities are not all alike. Some of them can have death benefits paid if the owner dies before annuitization. Most likely that would have the spouse as the beneficiary and the annuity would be paid on both lives, so until the second spouse passes away.
