RMD Calculation

I want to confirm the methodology used to calculate RMD for the second and subsequent years after the owner’s death.  I saw on the IRS site that you look at Table 1 for inherited IRAs in the first year and use the beneficiary’s age to determine the factor.  Then, the following year, you subtract the factor by 1.

Here’s an example: the beneficiary is age 39,

2024 factor – 46.7

2025 factor  45.7 (46.7-1)

2026 factor 44.7 ( 45.7 -1)

Thanks

Eleonora

Yes, that is correct unless the sole beneficiary is the spouse.

Another exception would be in the decedent passed after RBD and the beneficiary was older than the decedent. In that case, the longer life expectancy of the decedent could be used.
