Nancy born in 1945 is 79 as of 12/31/24. She has a Roth IRA with a balance
of $50,000 as of 12/31/23 and opened in 2015. She also has a Inherited Roth IRA from Tina, a friend, who died in 2016 at age 82.
Nancy inherited the Roth IRA from Tina in 2016
with a balance of $ 100,000 as of 12/31/23. Questions:
- Is the RMD Nancy has to take in 2024 from Tina’s Roth IRA in 2024 $9803.92 which is $100,00 divided by 10.2, using the Single Life Table?
- Can Nancy take this 2024 RMD of $9803.92 from Nancy’s own Roth IRA with a balance of $50,000 instead of from the IRA she inherited from Tina.

Yes, 10.2 is correct, and all beneficiary RMDs must be taken from the inherited account, not from a Roth IRA that is owned.
Since the 2024 RMD was missed, it must be made up and a 2024 5329 must be filed to request waiver of the penalty. At least all distributions from the inherited Roth are non taxable since that Roth is fully qualified.
