QCD’s for a Membership at a Synagogue
Hello,
I have clients that pay a membership fee to their synagogue every year. The synagogue is a 501c3 organization. However, I was unsure, if this would qualify as an applicable distribution for a qualified charitable distribution as it is technically considered a membership fee. Any help or guidance, would be appreciated.
Thanks

QCDs are subject to the same contemporaneous receipt requirements of an itemized charitable deduction. No benefit is allowed in exchange for the QCD for any amount to be treated as a QCD. A religious organization’s receipt should state that there are no benefits except intangible religious benefits, so if the synagogue will state that, it should be OK with the IRS.
