Still working exception

I’m 74 and just retired this year (Sept 2021). I’ve been taking required distributions from my IRA, but have not from my 403b plan (I’m not an owner). I’m reading that my required beginning date is 4/1/2022 – does that mean I have a required distribution from my 403b for 2021 that I have to take before 4/1/22? And, I can take this 2021 distribution this year or next year before 4/1/2022? And, if I delay I’ll have two required distributions in 2022?

Thanks for any help anyone provides.

The answer is Yes to each of your questions; you understand correctly.  You have until 4/1/2022 to complete the taking for the 2021 RMD from the 403(b), but it’s best to take it before that date to account for any processing delays of the 403(b) plan.
