attorney collected ira funds from deceased account , ira beneficiary was interpreted wrong at first then check was mailed to ben

the beneficiary was straightened out after a year, the attorney had the funds, but the accounts were cleared and held due to a mishap in the beneficiary, after a year it was figured out, and 2 brothers were the beneficiary of the proceeds, held by an attorney, but it was an inherited IRA, are there any steps to continue this as an inherited IRA for the sake of the beneficiary? the check is ow held by an insurance company who said it needs to come directly from the 401k provider …no other way >? Please advise if there is another way

If you are saying that a distribution was paid out from the inherited plan, then they cannot be restored to an inherited IRA unless the custodian was solely responsible for the error. Who asked for a distribution?
