When might proposed regulations for inherited IRA 10 year RMD be finalized

When might “proposed” regulations for inherited IRA 10 year RMD be finalized. If I need to take immediate distributions because original IRA owner had commenced RMDs, how would “missed” distribution for 2021 be handled? Thank you.

Have no idea when the Regs will be finalized. But the longer it takes the more likely that 2021 or even 2022 beneficiary RMDs within the 10 year rule will be waived.

I doubt they will waive the 2021 and 2022 RMDs but as we approach end of 2022 we may get more time to make them up without penalty.  Just opinion, but the purpose is to get money faster within the 10 year timeframe, so spreading it over 7 years instead (from 2020-2022 waivers) is less likely.

If it’s any indication, the current regulations were proposed in 1987, overhauled in 2001, and issued as final regulations in 2002.
