Beneficiary Question

Not sure if this question applys to this forum or not but it does have to do with a beneficiary designation. It pertains to a life insurance policy where the primary beneficiary on the policy to be the “living children” of the insured. My question is whether this includes step-children as well? I have always thought that children were either by blood or adopted, but not step-children unless they are specifically named. Like I said this question may not belong here but then I thought it might apply to an IRA as well.
Thanks,

As a step-child in Tennessee, you have few legal rights when it comes to inheriting property from a step-parent. While you can inherit property from a blood relative, you generally are not entitled to do so from a non-blood relative or parent.
