DOES A QCD DISTRIBUTED FROM AN INHERITED IRA TAKEN BY SOMEONE 70&1/2 QUALIFY FOR RMD
A friend is an elible designated beneficiary for an IRA inherited from her younger sister who passed on in 2021. The younger sister was in her mid-sixities. My friend needs to make a RMD by the end of this year and she turned 70&1/2 years old in September, 2022. If she makes a QCD by this year’s end from that inherited IRA would it be considered to meet her RMD requirements for 2022? The the new normal distrubutiion age is 72.
No question she can make the QCD but I cannot find tax authority to substantiate if
such a distrubution could be considered in part or in whole her RMD for 2022.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Having reached 70.5, she can distribute a QCD and the QCD amount will be credited toward her 2022 beneficiary RMD. She needs to do the QCD before completing her RMD if she wants it to offset the taxable RMD income.
