IRMAA Redeterminations in years subsequent to cashing in U.S. Savings Bonds

Our pension and social security income has never been high enough to generate an IRMAA surcharge. In 2023, we are considering U.S. Bond redemptions that would definitely result in an increase in our 2023 Form 1040 MAGI to the point that there would be an IRMAA surcharge for our 2025 Medicare premiums. Here is my question: If I have no further bond redemptions in 2024, then my 2024 MAGI would return to the level where I should not have an IRMAA surcharge in 2026. Would the elimination of the IRMAA surcharge, in 2026, be captured automatically by the social security administration, or would they continue to charge me an IRMAA surcharge, that first started in 2025, into 2026? If they were to charge me an IRMAA surcharge in 2026, would I be able to successfully appeal that IRMAA surcharge in 2026, based on a 2024 Form 1040 MAGI that is below the level for a 2026 IRMAA surchage. Thank you.

The SSA redetermines the IRMAA surcharge every year.  Your 2026 IRMAA will be based on your 2024 modified AGI.

Your actual 2024 MAGI should be passed from the IRS to SSA to determine your 2026 IRMAA. The two year offset provides the time needed for the 2024 return to be available for the adjustment. That said, if you file an extension for your 2024 return, I would file prior to October, 2025 to provide more time for capturing your actual 2024 MAGI.
