403B

I need an answer fast please. I have a referral that came with and inherited 403b from his Mom and the money is at American Funds. The original amount was approximately $65,000 and he chose a 15 year payout of $360 per month. The account value now is $35,000 and dropping pretty fast. The manager’s I wanted to take it to will not accept 403b money only IRA money. They suggested cashing in the account, sending the check to him and within 60 days putting into and IRA to avoid taxation? Can this be done? Also, since the the amount is now $35,000 can’t we change the RMD to the single life table and only take approximately $130 per month?

Ed’s cardinal rule: NON-SPOUSES CAN NEVER DO ROLLOVERS! However they may be able to do a trustee=to=trustee transfer to an inherited IRA.
