Non Spousal Beneficiary

For RMD when IRA owner is still alive and has a non spousal beneficiary 18 years younger than IRA owner. What is life expectancy calculation based on and which table is used?

The default table for determining an individual’s life expectancy factor is the Uniform Lifetime Table, which you can find in Publication 590. You can get a free copy of this publication on the IRS website or you can call 1-800-TAX-FORM and request one be mailed to you.

The only time an individual is allowed to use the Joint Lifetime Table is when the spouse is the sole primary beneficiary and that spouse is more than 10 years younger than the individual.
