RMDs for 2008
There has been a suggestion that, due to the recent dramatic drop in value of equities in people’s IRA’s, the government might consider some way of “forgiving” RMD’s for this year for those who have not done so already. What is happening in this regard?

Why not phone, email, or fax your senators and congressmen regarding your concern! If they can rescue the “big” companies, they can rescue retirees in [u][b]2008[/b][/u] and not wait for 2009!

We should remember in-kind distributions for poeple not needing the money. If low value stock or funds were distributed and held until death, they would get a basis step-up, under current law (assuming carryover basis in 2010 goes away). Or if sold later, capital gains tax instead of ordinary income tax. Lemonade out of lemons.
