In a 403B plan is there any significance to pre 1986 funds that are PRE TAX ?
In terms of special treatment and in terms of distributions? Im wondering why custodians must do separate accounting / accounts for pre 1986 pre tax money.

Because the RMD on those (pre or post tax) may be delayed until age 75.
