Deceased spouse not in RMD yet dies. Does remaining spouse

who is older and in RMD age bracket have to take RMD on rollover or can she wait tilll deceased spouse would have been RMD age. This is providing she doesn’t need the money. 🙁 😕

Consider the deceased spouse to have passed prior to their RBD. “Not in RMD yet” is not specific enough.

If the surviving spouse maintains the IRA in inherited form and does not assume ownership, the survivor does not need to begins RMDs until 12/31 of the year the deceased spouse would have reached age 70.5
OR
12/31 of the year following owner’s death, if later.

If the surviving spouse rolls the IRA over or assumes ownership after the year of the owner’s death, they are considered to have owned IRA all year.
