If an RMD was missed that you requested, just file Form 5329 and use that as your “reasonable cause” for the penalty waiver.

If I missed the RMD for 2016, what year do I file the 5329 Form? Since the money came out int 2017…..

File a 2016 5329 with your 2016 return, or separately if you have already filed 2016.
