Combining Inherited IRA with Personal IRA

A couple of questions related to inherited IRAs:

1. Is it possible to roll a properly titled Inherited IRA into an individual’s personal IRA?
2. If so, are there any tax implications for combining like this either now or at RBD?
3. On who’s age would the RBD be based…the original owner or the inheriting beneficiary?

Thanks!

A couple of questions related to inherited IRAs:

1. Is it possible to roll a properly titled Inherited IRA into an individual’s personal IRA?

Yes, but only for a spousal beneficiary

2. If so, are there any tax implications for combining like this either now or at RBD?

a) If the inherited IRA has a different % of basis from non deductible contributions than the owned IRA, combining them will produce a different consolidated basis %
b) RMDs are affected since the rules for an inherited spousal IRA are different than an owned IRA, eg different RMD table and sometimes different RBDs
c) No early withdrawal penalty on distributions from inherited IRA, but if rolled to owned IRA the penalty applies until age 59.5

3. On who’s age would the RBD be based…the original owner or the inheriting beneficiary?

a) For owned IRA always the age of the owner
b) For inherited IRA from either spouse or non spouse, the age of the beneficiary if owner passed prior to RBD; if owner passed after the RBD, the age of the younger of the decedent or the beneficiary
