Yes, if your joint modified AGI is less than 173,000 for 2012. A partial Roth contribution is allowed if MAGI is between 173k and 183k, and none if over 183k. The 401k contributions reduce your joint MAGI from what it would be without the 401k contribution, and that may help in coming in below the 173k MAGI.
If your joint income is still too high, her only option would be a non deductible TIRA contribution.
