QCD expired?

Please confirm that the ability to do Qualified Charitable Distributions was not extended past December 31, 2013.

This article,https://irahelp.com/slottreport/charitable-ira-rollovers-2014-planning-provision-doesnt-exist, states: “The provision for qualified charitable distributions (QCDs), which allows IRA and inherited IRA owners 70 1/2 or older to transfer portions of their accounts to qualifying charities tax-free. while satisfying all or a portion of their RMDs (required minimum distributions), expired at the end of 2013. ”

The link you reference is not working

The QCD did expire at 12/31/13 but both houses have discussed extending it again. It’s part of the extenders package which the house has passed twice. All previous extensions have been retroactive. If you want QCD ask the cutodian to make your RMD out to charity – worst case is that you’d report it as income just as you would if there had never been such a law but you also get a charitable deduction.

Jerilynn – Link working or not, QCDs expired at the end of 2013 and have not yet been renewed for 2014.  Look for any renewal after the November election, probably in December or very early January (possibly retroactive to December as has been done in a prior year).  Tom D.
