401k participants death @ 72 still employed
401k participant dies while employed @ 72 . Has never taken a distribution from plan , spouse , 67!, rolls plan assets as a spousal beneficiary to an IRA . Does the participant although deceased , still have a RMD prior to the spouse rolling over the Assets?

Probably not, because he died prior to his usual required beginning date. However, if he was a 5% owner his RBD would have been earlier and an RMD due for the year of death. Hopefully, surviving spouse has rolled to their own IRA because there is no benefit and major drawbacks for maintaining an inherited IRA with the ages that apply in this case.
