To file or not to file for unemployment at the age of 63?

Help, not sure if it is a good idea now to file for unemployment at my age (63).
Had to quit – was bullied and sexually harrassed at workplace: a non-profit religious place. Will it affect my social security benefits I plan to collect at 70?
Any suggestions/advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you are not employed, you are not adding more years to your SS benefit calculation. The formula uses the highest 35 inflation adjusted years, so if you already have 35 years, this will have a negligible effect. If you don’t have 35 years of earnings, the years where you do not work are counted as 0 in the average. As for the UC claim, whether successful or not it would not affect your SS benefit calculation. UC benefits do not count as SS wages because you do not pay SS on them.
