Your first RMD distribution year (the year for which an RMD is required) will be 2017, however your RBD (required beginning date) will not be until 4/1/2018. You might consider this as a sort of grace period to take your first RMD. This means that you can postpone your 2017 RMD into early 2018, but if you do that you will have to take both your 2017 and 2018 RMDs in 2018, and that could bunch too much income into a single tax year.
