Not for the year of death. The key date is the required beginning date, which is 4/1 of the year following the year the decedent would have reached 70.5. Since decedent passed prior to the RBD, the beneficiary’s first life expectancy RMD would be due by year end of the year following the year of IRA owner’s death.
