I turn 70 on May 22, 2017, and therefore I am 70 1/2 on Nov. 22, 2017. I want my first RMD in 2017.
Can I take my first distribution any time from Jan. 1 2017, through Dec. 31 2017… or must I wait until Nov. 22, 2017?

You can take the RMD anytime you wish in 2017. Since 2017 is your first RMD distribution year, the first distribution you take in 2017 will apply against the RMD. You do not need to wait until November.
