Moving from a state with high estate tax exemption to a low estate tax exemption state
I am planning a move from NYS which allows an estate tax exemption $ 5,250.000 as of April 2017. However I am planning to move in the future to Mass. which has only a $ 1,000,000 estate tax exemption. If I gift $ 5,000,000 in 2017 as a NYS resident, will my estate be charge Mass. estate taxes over the $ 1,000,000 threshold at my death?
