Revocable Trust

Is there a tax advantage to putting retirement accounts into a trust when the beneficiary (spouse) is already established?

  • An IRA owner can’t transfer his/her IRA during lifetime.
  • In most cases, it makes sense for married IRA owners to leave their IRAs to their spouses.
  • Revocable trusts make sense in some cases, and in some states, but they’re overhyped and oversold, and for most people are not necessary, and tend to be a distraction.
