IRA Rollover

As a terminated employee, Client moved 401K proceeds from employer A to employer B’s 401K plan. Shares of the proceeds moved are identifiable. Can he now open IRA Rollover and move those recently transferred shares to his individual IRA Rollover?

My understanding is that if this is possible it would be classified as an “in service rollover”

Thanks for your assistance!

That depends on Plan B’s provisions with respect to if and when rollover contributions can be distributed as an in service distribution. This is not affected by any IRS rule. There may might be advantages in leaving these funds in the current plan depending on age and of course the plan investment options and expenses.
