Spouse Inherits IRA and then passes
Hi:
Spouse 1 inherited and IRA from parent that went into an Inherited IRA under Spouse 1.
Spouse 1 passes and named surviving spouse primary beneficiary.
I assume the surviving spouse can still do an Inherited IRA under the surviving spouse.
Thank you,

Yes, the surviving spouse of the inherited IRA beneficiary can continue the inherited IRA with the same beneficiary RMDs Spouse 1 would have taken. Since this was originally a non spouse inherited IRA, the remaining beneficiary cannot roll it over to their own IRA even though they inherited it from their spouse. The remaining beneficiary should also name their own successor beneficiary on the inherited IRA.
