I am a Federal Govt employee and would like to know whether I must take RMD at 70 and a half years if I am still working.or can it be deferred till I stop working.Thanks

Your required beginning date should be 4/1 of the year following the year you retire, but if you have reached 70.5 or later in the year you retire, that year will be an RMD distribution year for which you can defer that RMD until the following year 4/1. As I understand it, the TSP does not recognize the lower RMDs for an employee with a spouse more than 10 years younger, and if you have a Roth TSP in addition to the usual pre tax TSP, you must take RMDs separately from each portion.
