Not Happy With New Forum Format

I am not particularly happy with the contrast in the new format. Other new color does not contrast very well with the background and is hard to read in my opinion. Does anyone else have an opinion.

In addition to the poor contrast, it appears that I now have no way to tell which topics with no replies I’ve already viewed.

The index page is virtually unreadable.  The choice of yellow or gold for the titles creates a page with the posting titles fading into the background.  The main text of the postings are also faint – blue is a bad choice of color.  All text should be black for good readability.  I also concur with the comment of DMx.

I feel very uncomfortable in having any nerve to complain about the new format of a free service that for so long has been so valuable, so helpful, so interesting and so enjoyable.  My sincerest thanks go out to Alan and the other contributors who regularly respond so promptly and expertly to IRA queries.  But, face it, the new format stinks in essentially all respects.  Others can comment more constructively on specific needed improvements, but in the meantime, dump the web outfit responsible for the current disaster and expedite use of strongly contrasting colors that assist–rather than destroy–readability.  Focus on the Forum reader/user, and avoid any new designer who just likes to look at pretty matching colors.

  • The readability of this website can be much improved by using the Chrome browser and installing the “High Contrast” extension.  The “High Contrast” extension can be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store.  It can be configured to be active only for the irahelp website, and to remain inactive for all other websites that may be visited.
  • One drawback of using Chrome is that any pages that are printed will have the new “Find an Advisor” box placed over some of the text of the page being printed, obliterating a portion of the printout.  I haven’t found any way to suppress this.
  • I know we are all grateful to Ed Slott for sponsoring this forum, so I was glad to find how to improve the readability without any design changes being needed.

First of all, thank you to Ed Slott and to all who contribute to answer these complex questions posed by us IRA enthusiasts AT NO COST!!! Now, I would like to see a Search function so that I could find posts that I or other posters have posted. I sometimes want to return to a post I made months in the past. Of course, the remedy is to always make copies of all posts and responses to my own data storage but sometimes new reply posts arrive days or even weeks after the initial replies. This would allow me to monitor all responses quickly. Thanks again to all responders and especially to Alan and also thank you again Ed Slott.
